Poco M8 5G launch date and specifications

Poco M8 5G stands out as Poco’s latest budget 5G contender, officially teased for India launch on January 8, 2026, at 12 PM IST via Flipkart and Poco stores, promising slim design and solid endurance under ₹12,000. Successor to the M6 series, it targets students/content creators with a vibrant display, Snapdragon efficiency, and an IP65 build—ideal for Chandigarh’s daily commuters.

OVERVIEW: POCO M8 5G

Design and Display

Remarkably slim at 7.35 mm thick and 178 g in weight, thinner than many flagships with curved glass front/back, flat aluminum sides, and a squircle camera module (dual lenses + LED). Dimensions: 164.0 x 75.42 x 7.35 mm; 89.46% screen-to-body ratio. IP65 splash/dust resistance, Gorilla Glass 5 front protection. Ports: USB-C bottom, IR blaster top; stereo speakers with Dolby Atmos tuning. No 3.5mm jack or microSD slot.

The phone features a 6.77-inch curved FHD+ OLED display with a sharp 1080×2392 resolution and a 20:9 aspect ratio, so you get crisp visuals at 388 pixels per inch. The screen adapts its refresh rate, jumping between 30, 60, 90, and 120 Hz, which keeps everything smooth whether you’re just scrolling or deep into a game. It’s crazy bright too, hitting 3200 nits in High Brightness Mode, plus it supports HDR10+ and Dolby Vision for those vivid colors.

No more eye strain from flicker either, thanks to 2160 Hz PWM dimming. The Always-On Display lets you add your own widgets, and Wet Touch 2.0 means you can use the screen even with gloves or wet fingers. And if you play PUBG Mobile, you’ll love that it handles 90 FPS gaming without breaking a sweat.

Camera

On the back, you get a 50MP main camera with an f/1.8 lens—sharp, good in low light, and quick to focus. There’s also a 2MP depth sensor for those portrait shots. The camera uses AI to boost your photos, plus you’ve got HDR and an LED flash for tricky lighting. You can shoot video in 4K at 30 fps or go for smooth slow-mo at 1080p and 120 fps. Just a heads up, there’s no optical image stabilization.

Up front, there’s an 8MP wide-angle camera for selfies, complete with a screen flash to help out in the dark. Selfie videos max out at 1080p, 30 fps.

Performance

The Snapdragon 6 Gen 3 (4nm) packs a punch: it runs on a fast 2.4GHz Cortex-A78, three 2.2GHz performance cores, and four efficiency cores at 1.8GHz. Graphics? That’s handled by the Adreno 710 GPU. On benchmarks, you’re looking at around 750,000 to 800,000 on AnTuTu v10, and Geekbench scores land near 1,100 for single-core and 3,200 for multi-core. Thanks to LiquidCool tech, you can game at a steady 60 FPS for over two hours without things heating up. For memory, you get 6 or 8GB of LPDDR4X RAM (plus up to 12GB using virtual memory), and storage options at 128 or 256GB UFS 2.2.

Runs Android 15 with HyperOS 2.0, so the interface feels light and relies a lot on gestures. You’ll get two big Android updates, all the way up to Android 17, plus four years of security patches. There’s AI LinkBoost for sharing stuff across devices, Game Turbo to smooth out your frame rates, and Super Resolution for sharper photos. After you set it up, there’s no bloatware—just a clean system and a privacy dashboard to keep things in check.

Connectivity

In the Poco M8, you get full 5G support for both SA and NSA over multiple bands along with 4G LTE, dual-band Wi-Fi 5, Bluetooth 5.1, NFC, and GPS with A-GPS and GLONASS. It uses USB-C 2.0 for charging and data, and you can run two SIMs or swap one out for a microSD card if you need more storage.

For security and sensors, there’s an under-display optical fingerprint reader, plus the usual bunch: accelerometer, gyro, proximity sensor, and compass.

Sound-wise, you’re looking at dual 1216 linear speakers with Dolby Atmos and Hi-Res certification, and honestly, the volume jump is huge up to 400% louder than previous models. The X-axis linear motor makes gaming feel even more immersive with sharp haptic feedback. Just a heads up: there’s no headphone jack, so you’ll need a USB-C adapter if you want to use wired headphones.
