Panasonic officially announced the Panasonic LUMIX S5II and S5IIX at CES 2023. As the successor to the original Lumix S5, the new mirrorless cameras feature hybrid phase-detection autofocus, a first for Panasonic cameras. Let’s take a closer look at the Panasonic Lumix S5II and S5IIX and their expected price in India.
Panasonic Lumix S5II, S5IIX Specs and Overview:
Cameras
Both the Lumix S5II and S5IIX are advanced mirrorless cameras with a 35mm full-frame 24.2MP CMOS sensor and L2 imaging technology. The hybrid autofocus system mentioned above combines phase-detection autofocus and contrast-detection for a total of 779 AF points. This makes it possible to follow the movements of subject very well.
They both record 6K video at 30 frames per second and twice the performance of the original LUMIX S5. They also offer support for 30fps burst shooting, which is great for capturing fast-moving objects.
It can also record in 4K at 120 fps and 1080 at 180 fps for smooth slow motion sequences. Panasonic has adopted a new heat distribution method with an integrated fan and heatsink that enables continuous 4K recording without overheating.
Picture Quality
The company also claims that the camera has more than 14 stops of dynamic range in V-Log/V-Gamut. And they support real-time LUT apps for in-camera calibration by loading your LUT directly into the camera. The S5II and S5IIX also have enhanced Dual Native ISO for better low light performance. In addition, both cameras can record 10-bit 4:2:2 videos in UHD or 4K resolution.
Stabilization
This year, Panasonic also improved the stabilization system, which now includes 5-axis Body IS and 2-axis lens-based OIS that works for both photos and videos. There is also an Active IS mode for videos that optimizes horizontal, vertical and rotation correction ratios by detecting camera shake.
Differences
While the Lumix S5II and S5IIX are identical so far, they differ in a few areas. This means the S5IIX can output RAW video right out of the box. However, this feature is available as an optional upgrade with the S5II.
S5IIX, on the other hand, also supports USB SSD recording as well as ALL-Intra and ProRes recording. There’s also wired and wireless streaming for live streaming, as well as USB tethering.
Panasonic Lumix S5II, S5IIX Price in India and Availability
In terms of price, the S5II will be available in stores this month for $2,000. The S5IIX will be available in May 2023 for $2,200. You can buy it currently from amazon.com once the product will be officially listed and available.
